I have been busy cleaning, organising & re-organising my kitchen space for
the past week. Everything has been moved to new & more practical locations.
Much to the dismay of my family who can no longer find anything!
New canisters have been ordered from Donna Hay's General Store.
The walk-in-pantry will have three upper shelves with timber moulding &
beadboard backing all painted white.

We are having to build a built-in lower storage unit, due to the width of the space being
too narrow for many of the ready made units.
Taking inspiration from Susan's Homeroad blog with her stunning Ikea cart makeover,
I'm going to stain & distress the cabinet top and add some vintage graphics as well.
I'm still deciding between using slats for the bottom two shelves or using regular flat shelving.
I am imagining baskets or wine crates along the bottom shelf.
Any ideas?

Hi Kerry, it all sounds lovely, the baskets sound nice, Ikea have lots of them in all different shapes and sizes. I love those Donna Hay cannisters, I wouldn't mind some of them too.

Sounds great! I have that same type of canister, and they work so great. They are not too heavy and not to big. And I have a similar butcher block cart and have tried both wire and cloth baskets and the cloth ones I think look more clean. I cannot wait to see the finish pantry product.

It all looks lovely. As for the slats or not slats. Going by past projects, you might be better off with the regular flat shelves. Having basket etc and slats can make it look a little busy. Food for thought. Whatever you decide, it will look great.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of baskets and wine crates. I like the slightly rustic feel they have. I'm looking forward to seeing your finished project. X Sharon
ReplyDeleteHi there, I would go with the open slats...more flexibility then and it looks very nice. Good luck! I love the direction you are heading, for sure...
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of crates, That little cart is wonderful it would perfect in my art studio! (I'm looking for ideas for nice nd practical storage!! )
